Best of Swiss Mountain Railways

Zurich – Lucerne – Gstaad- Zermatt – Zurich

Mount Titlis – Jungfraujoch – Glacier 3000 – Gornergrat/Matterhorn

Explore a world of glaciers, passes and peaks on the incredible Swiss mountain rail network. This unique journey combines the most attractive regions of Switzerland with some of the most spectacular mountain railways of Europe, including the Mount Titlis, the Jungfrau, Glacier 3000 and the Gornergrat railways. The journey takes you from Cen-tral Switzerland to the Bernese Oberland and the Valais.

Day 1: Arrival Zurich transfer to Lucerne

Upon arrival at Zurich airport you will be met and transferred to Lucerne. Depending on arrival time opportunity to discover the Old Town and stroll along Lake Lucerne on your own.

 We visit world-famous sights such as the Chapel Bridge with the octagonal Water Tower, the Jesuit Church and the KKL Luzern (Culture and Convention Centre Lucerne). On the tour you will learn important and humorous facts about the history of Lucerne and the everyday life of its residents. You will discover hidden alleys, visit town squares teeming with activity and even catch a glimpse of the city’s “crown,” the Musegg Wall. Experience renowned sights and many fascinating aspects.

Thanks to its attractions, its souvenir and watch shops, the beautiful lakeside setting and the nearby Excursion Mountains of the Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn, the town is a destination for many travel groups and individuals on their journey through central Switzerland. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 2: Lucerne / Excursion Mount Titlis

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast board the train to Engelberg from where the first of a set of three gondolas will slowly take you to a height of 3020 m.

The Titlis is the highest glacier excursion destination and biggest ski and snowboard paradise in Central Switzerland. The Titlis, Engelberg’s ‘house mountain’, and its glacier park are accessible by revolving rotair cableway. At an altitude of 3020 m a.s.l. visitors are treated to a fabulous view of the central Alps. The Titlis Glacier Park and ‘Ice Flyer’ chairlift are a paradise for those keen to glide down the slopes on skis or some of the other snow-gliding equipment for beginners and adventurers which is available free of charge. And there are a freestyle park, glacier grotto in the eternal ice and walking options on the Titlis.

The last stage of your ascent is in the world’s first rotating gondola, the ‘TILTIS ROTAIR’.

Day 3: Lucerne – Interlaken / Excursion Jungfraujoch

Breakfast at the hotel.

In Interlaken take the train to the Kleine Scheidegg at the foot of the famous Eiger. Change trains to get on board of the Jungfrau railway und ride via ‘Eiger Gletscher’ to the Jungfraujoch – the highest railway station in Europe at 3454 m with some breathtaking views.

Travel back to Lucerne by train.

Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 4: Lucerne – Gstaad / incl. Interlaken to Gstaad by Golden Pass Line 3000

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today you are heading to Gstaad by the Golden Pass Line. From Gstaad you will visit Glacier 3000. The mountain station located at 2965 m above sea level was designed by the famous architect Mario Botta. The View Point is rea-ched by walking a few feet to a staircase that leads to the top. Once you reach the top, your view sweeps across the fabulous 360° panorama.

Day 5: Gstaad – Zermatt

Breakfast at the hotel Travel from Gstaad to Zermatt by train and experience an unforgettable journey with beautiful scenery before you reach the famous car-free Alpine resort of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn.

Day 6: Zermatt / Excursion Gornergrat

Breakfast at the hotel.

Over 20 gigantic 4000 and more meter-high peaks surround the rocky ridge between the Findelen and Gornergletscher, at 1500 meters above Zermatt. Since over a century a cog railway has made its way here – and still does today, every 24 minutes

Take one of Europe’s highest cogwheel trains up to the Gornergrat and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and the Matterhorn. Leisure time in Zermatt. The location of Zermatt in the middle of an enormous hiking and ski region makes it one of the world‘s most attractive vacation villages.

Day 7: Zermatt – Zurich

After your breakfast travel by train from Zermatt to Zurich main station. Take the opportunity to discover the world famous shopping mile Bahnhofstrasse or stroll along the banks of Lake Zurich. Overnight in Zurich.

Day 8: Departure

After a healthy breakfast have some more time for souvenir shopping before your driver will pick you up at the hotel for your private transfer to the airport Zurich.
